    Understanding Your Acne

Learn what causes acne, the different types, and how to assess severity.

    What Causes Acne?

Acne develops when four key factors come together:

    Excess oil production

Your skin produces too much oil, often triggered by hormones

    Blocked pores

Dead skin cells don't shed properly and clog pores

    Bacteria

Bacteria multiply in clogged pores, causing inflammation

    Inflammation

Your body's immune response creates redness and swelling

    Types of Acne

    Non-Inflammatory

    Blackheads

Open pores that look dark due to oxidation

    Whiteheads

Closed pores that appear as small white bumps

    Inflammatory

    Papules

Small, red, tender bumps without pus

    Pustules

Red bumps with white/yellow pus at centre

    Nodules/Cysts

Deep, painful lumps with highest scarring risk

    How Serious Is My Acne?
